All water supplies contain minerals like calcium and magnesium that left untreated minerals in will deposit as scale along the length of the UV lamp quartz thimble and internal surface of the UV reactor chamber. As the coating of scale thickens the penetrating intensity of the UV light reducers and the reflective capacity of the UV reactor chamber are compromised decreasing the disinfecting capability of the UV system.
The Clean Water Co supply a UV system including hard water protection that reducers the build up of scale on the UV lamp quartz thimble and the internal surface of the UV reactor chamber allowing better UV light penetration and reflection into the water stream.
It is important to install the hard water protection on the UV system water inlet. In addition to the UV disinfection you will also enjoy a softer water with reduced hard water scaling problems.

The Powers of UV Disinfection
UV disinfection is a technology that uses Ultra-Violet light in the germicidal wavelength range between 200 and 300 nanometers. The optimum UV wavelength for UV disinfection is 264 nanometers which is located within the UV-C spectrum.
When microorganisms are exposed to germicidal wavelengths, they are destroyed outright or rendered incapable of reproducing. The high energy associated with UV-C UV light is absorbed by the DNA of bacteria, viruses, spores and other pathogens. This absorption causes abnormalities within the DNA to occur, resulting in the microorganism being incapable of reproducing and infecting.
A certain UV dose will provide a 99.9% reduction in bacteria
